Origami Fish – Step It Up

For this next Summer Learning Journey activity, we needed to create an origami Koi Fish. I decided to begin on the step it up activity since I wanted to challenge myself. I planned to use white paper therefore at the end, I could colour in the Koi Fish’s patterns with black and orange colour  pencils. When I started crafting, some of the instructions in the video were quite tricky and confusing therefore I struggled a lot, however I got some help from my friends. As you already know at the end of the crafting, I began colouring in the patterns of a Koi fish with black and orange colouring pencils. My favourite part of this activity is seeing the results of my Origami and colouring in the details of a Koi Fish. Also here are two interesting facts I found out about origami, Origami derived from two Japanese words, ‘Ori’ means ‘Folded’ and ‘Gami’ means ‘Paper’ and did you know Origami can improve your health? It stimulates your memory, concentration, 3D comprehension, imagination, and more. Many people also finds origami relaxing, grounding and emotionally satisfying.

I found this activity amusing because I really enjoyed crafting things with paper.

‘Wanted’ Feared Fish – Step It Up

I started on my first Summer Learning Journey activity for 2024. I decided to move onto the step it up task because I thought the kickstart activity was a bit easy for me. For this activiy, we needed to create a ‘Warning’ Poster about a dangerous sea creature we’ve chosen, I had to include why it’s dangerous, and some warnings or safety tips for people to avoid it. As you can see, the sea creature I have selected is a “Red Lionfish’ because when I first say it’s appearance, I thought it looks unique and eye-catching.  Red Lionfish are really dangerous to humans due to their potent venom. A Lionfish’s sting produces painful sensations and it most likely results some unpleasant effects, from extreme pain and nausea, to convulsions, dizziness, fever and numbness… Yikes! That sounds painful.

I found this Summer Learning Journey activity enjoyable because I really enjoyed using my creativity and artistics skills to decorate my poster therefore it could eye-catching and attracts people’s attention.

Tongan Kiekie

I completed a Kick-Start task from the Summer Learning Journey, for this actitivty I had to create my own kiekie.

A kiekie is a traditional clothing in the Tongan culture, its a type of clothing wrapped around your waist. People often wear their kiekie on formal events, like birthday parties, funerals, church, weddings, graduations and other special occasions. Wearing a kiekie and/or ta’ovala is an important way of showing respect and honour to others towards one another. A kiekie is really important to me and my family because it represents our culture.

This activity was enjoyable because it was about my culture, and I enjoy doing activities that are related to the Polynesian culture, especially my culture.

ComicQuest

As pair we completed a kick start activity from the summer learning journey.

The activity was to create a comic and tell a story about some characters at the beach. Our comic was about 2 friends on a trip to the beach. A girl named Siniva picked up a random ball on the ground, not knowing what to do. Until she got the idea, she decided to play volleyball. She asked her friend Bethany to play, and she gladly accepted. In the first round, Siniva served the ball and Bethany jumped trying to strike the ball but missed making Siniva win the first round. Siniva was celebrating her win and Bethany became devastated that she lost and wanted a rematch. In the second round the game was going well until Siniva hit the ball too hard, hitting Bethany in the face causing her to fall on the floor. With no chance of beating Siniva, she wanted to stop playing and offered Siniva to have ice cream with her. Siniva accepts the offer knowing that Bethany doesn’t want to play.

This activity was amusing because we got to use our ideas, Imagination, and creativity to create a comic.

Super Seesaw

I completed a summer learning journey task called Super Seesaw.

First, I watched a video on how to make a seesaw on our own.

Next, I collected the materials I needed. The materials I need are: A tube, a string, and a spoon. We didn’t had any spoon at school, so I decided to use a ruler and put the cup on the end of the ruler so it could look like a spoon.

Last, I recorded myself attempting at launching. I took me 10 attempts to score.

I enjoyed this activity because I made my own super seesaw. I did well on finding the materials I needed. I need to improve on making the string more tighter.
